Current Thread: Is this just news to me??

Is this just news to me??

Hi all, don't know if I'm just behind the times because of having little time lately to get in here and read but I double checked to make sure I'd read all the gambling news reports and didn't see anything so here's my comment/question... the day before yesterday my g-friend down the street got note from Lasseter's (probably not spelled right and I'm too lazy to check it out) giving her notification that they are closing their online casino due in part to the loss of "US online gaming rights" and subsequent loss of revenue.

So... is this old news and I'm just to far out of the loop or is this new.. news (since they are one of "our" recommended casinos)

would appreciate any info or direction on where to read about this
thanks all and "happy gaming"!!!

Re: Is this just news to me??

The directors of Lasseters did come to the decision to close the doors at the casino. As John and I agreed, honest casinos such as Lasseters have paid the price for these insane gambling laws while the rogue casinos continue as always. They were regulated and followed the rules, but the U.S. market was taken from them . Without those players, it was no longer viable for them to continue.

Re: Is this just news to me??

Thanks very much for your reply and for the info littlebit, at least via searching even our site I see it wasn't just a case of me NOT reading carefully enough as I still see info about the casino on various pages within our site.

Seems such a shame that these governments give themselves the right to tell us where we can spend our hard earned $'s, but I guess the trueth of it is, it's only because they can't figure a way of getting their share of the profits via taxation.. same old storey eh?
thanks again tho

Re: Is this just news to me??

It will take a while to change the text on some pages, etc.

This casino was licensed and regulated by the Australian government. The minute UIGEA passed, they honored the U.S. bill , pulling Lasseter out of the market for us. Without the revenue of U.S. players, it just wasn't viable despite all efforts to hang on.

It was a loss then and an bigger loss now they no longer exist.

Re: Is this just news to me??

Hope you don't think I was saying a "neg" when I mentioned that there were still listings for this casino on our site, believe me I can only imagine what time it takes to keep this site up and running and all the info up-to-date!
I was surprised to hear from my friend about her letter, but it was definately a positive for the casino to sent "personal" note to their members. I myself started gaming with Lassiters but made the mistake of "banning" myself, thinking it would be for awhile, not a life time. I was shocked when they emailed me when I tried to log in after many many years of playing at other sites, that in order to again play at thier site I needed a note from a physologist stating I was of sound mind... might be a wake up call for anyone thinking about taking themselves away from a site, check to make sure if that self exclusion is a "life long one" *giggle* So for me personally, the loss is neither good or bad but for those of my friends I got to sign up and have enjoyed playing there all these years, it's a loss, it was a GREAT online casino, one of the few you could really really trust!
thanks again for your input and replies

Pam

Re: Is this just news to me??

I didn't think that was said in a negative way at all :>). In fact, it's very helpful when members alert us to something they feel is amiss because often we aren't aware of it.

Of sound mind ? Well, that would exclude most of us. LMAO. Believe it or not, Lasseters was so rigidly regulated by the Australian governmnent, even the least change in it's bonus requirements had to be studied and passed on before they could do that. I would bet good money what happened to you after you "banned" yourself was just part of those government regulations :>)

I personally dealt with Lasseters as a customer and was blown away at the lengths they went to help me. Once I really messed up a cashout that I had sent to FirePay. I couldn't get FirePay to understand diddly so the Lasseter guys got on the phone, spoke with FirePay and sorted out the mess I had made. I don't know of another casino that would have gone to all the trouble they did .

Thanks again,
Trish
