GONEGAMBLING NEWSLETTER - 11 May 2012
Hi GG Member,
I don't know whether to be proud or sad, but I've stumped
the GG members!
You may recall that nearly two weeks ago, I posted a forum
competition where I'd give 5,000 GG's to the first member
who could accurately guess the make and model of my first
car. One person (the first to post!) came close, but no one
got it right. I decided to up the ante and offer 10,000
GG's...and I allowed for a second guess. Still no one managed
to come up with the right answer!
I honestly didn't think this one would be so tough!
So now, to put everyone out of their misery, I'm gonna give
you the answer: My very first car was a bright, shiny,
yellow Toyota Celica. She was a sweet little thing, given to
me by my mother (who was sick of either schlepping me around
or me begging for and borrowing her car!). I remember the
day I got the car-I'd gone to breakfast with my mom and my
grandparents. After breakfast, mom told me we had to stop by
her office for her to pick up some papers (of course, I was
annoyed that we weren't doing something fun!). As we pulled
into the garage, there it was...my precious little Celica with
a great big bow on it! OMG, OMG, OMG!!! I knew right away
that baby was mine!
I couldn't wait to get in and drive it away-she was mine,
all mine! Just one problem, though. She had a manual
transmission and I didn't know how to drive stick! Now this
wonderful gift was beginning to feel like a cruel hoax!
I put my family through hell trying to learn to drive stick.
First, my grandfather gave it a try-he taught me to drive in
the first place. After two hours, the most patient man I've
ever known, threw in the towel. Then my mother gave it
several good tries...and came up with swear words that to this
day I'd never heard before! Mom and I really didn't get on
very well during the weeks I was attempting to learn to
drive this car! Finally, my uncle came swooping in. No one
in my family believed he'd have a shot in hell in getting me
to learn to drive this car, but he was determined! I
realized at that point, my uncle was probably my last hope
and somehow everything seemed to click! I had mastered the
stick and now the world was my oyster...so long as I could
drive there!
Sadly, my little Celica would only be with me a very short
while (about six months), due to a truly tragic event, but
the memories of my family doing everything possible to get
me driving her will be some of my most prized memories.
I'll have some more forum competitions for you this weekend.
Hopefully, you all will fare better!
GIFTING
Ugh...my giant headache! It seems that every six months or
so, I have to remind members about the do's and don'ts of
Gifting. Looks like it's that time again, so here goes:
If you run short on GG's, there is a
special forum where you
can do your begging. DON'T beg in the main forum! It will
only get members snapping at you and likely a vacation by
me. And if someone is kind enough to Gift you, remember to
say thank you...and pay it forward when you're in a position
to help others.
Pretty simple stuff and it's just good karma. :)
CHARGEBACKS REARING ITS UGLY HEAD AGAIN
Back in January,
I wrote about the damage people do to online casinos
when they charge back their deposits.
Well, this week, I received an email from one of our
sponsors making me aware that one of our long-time members
has initiated over 35 chargebacks against them. Once I got
over the shock, pure anger set in.
Just as we look after our members at GoneGambling, we look
after those casinos who so generously support the site.
Knowing that one of our members has done something so
egregious puts a knot in my stomach. In penalties alone, the
casino is out thousands of dollars...not to mention the actual
cost of all of those deposits.
I just want to take a moment to remind members that there is
NO excuse for a chargeback!!! If I find any member taking
such action, they're done...tossed off the site without the
hope of returning.
At the end of the day, charging back is theft, plain and
simple. We're not going to support this sort of behavior
under any circumstance.
TOURNAMENT NEWS
Since Jeff put the fix on things, it appears the Tournaments
are running smoothly and winners are being paid as they
should be. Good job, Jeff!
I'll have a couple Tournaments lined up for you for this
weekend. Check the forum Friday for all the details!
