The armastice was signed that ended the First World War, The Great War.
99 years ago, 1918 saw the end of carnage that shook the world.
1917 saw some of the most savage fighting of the war so far.
Thousands of British troops had fallen, then thousands more Australians.
Finally, the Canadians took the part of the line known as Passchendaele.
They lost 5,000. This was the Third Battle of Ypres.
Since then we have had the Second World War and many other conflicts where British troops have fallen.
Our Commonwealth and Dominion allies have all answered the call to arms on our behalf.
Americans, again, in their thousands have given their lives for us to be free.
We have freedom, liberty and rights today, because many servicemen and women did not come home.

Let Us Not Forget.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Phil.
